Un sauna en 2 jours, Bruxelles, Constructlab

Réalisation d’un sauna lors du workshop Last Resort organisé par Constructlab dans le cadre du programme Stories Unfold pour la réactivation de l’écotourisme dans les Flandres belges et la réouverture du château de Ruben.

En 2023, j’ai participé à l’université d’été du collectif Constructlab appelé the Last Resort. Elle faisait partie du programme Unfold Stories au château de Ruben à Zemst, dans la banlieue bruxelloise. Ce workshop a pris la forme d’une résidence artistique. L’ouverture au public du château de Ruben fut l’occasion de questionner les concepts de patrimoine, de mémoire, et d’écotourisme. Comment pouvons nous remettre en lumière les traces du passé, comment proposer la visite d’un héritage encore épargné par le tourisme de masse et son approche consumériste. Nous avons campé sur site, explorant la nature environnante, éprouvant le territoire jour après jour. Nous avons observé les logiques et équilibres qui s’y jouaient suivant distincts workshops et différents thèmes : comment dormir, comment cuisiner, comment gérer l’accès à l’eau, comment visiter ? The Last Resort est une expérimentation d’un groupe de designers, d’architectes et d’artistes collaborant ensemble pour trouver une ligne de crête incarnant le tourisme de demain, tout en dénonçant la crise climatique et l’usage grandissant des espaces de loisir à motivation commerciale. La totalité des œuvres a été réalisée avec des matériaux recyclés, et le bois acheté sera réutilisé pour d’autres projets dans le futur.

Construction of a sauna during the Last Resort Workshop organized by Constructlab through the program Stories Unfold and the reopening of the Ruben Castle.

In 2023, I participate in a Constructlab summer school called Last resort being apart of the Unfold Stories programme at the Rubens Castle in Zemst, not far from Bruxelles. This workshop took the form of an artistic residency. The opening to the public of the Rubens castle was an occasion to question the concept of history, memories and ecotourism. How can we highlight traces of the past, how can we propose a visit of an untouched heritage avoiding the inconvenient of the mass tourism and consumerism? We were camping on the site, exploring the nature around, experiencing day after day the territory, observing the logic and balances of the area through different workshops theme’s : how to sleep, how to cook, how to water, how to visit. The last resort was an experiment of an international group of designers, architects, artist collaborating and researching together in order to find a middle way for the tourism of tomorrow, denouncing the climate crisis and the commercialised superficial leisure places. All compositions were realised with upcycled materials.The entire wood ordered for the event was dismantled and reused for other projects.
